CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN ZOO

Sandra, female Sumatran orangutan
In Memory of Maggie
1974 - 2008

She was a tough old girl and was definitely grandma-in-charge. She had a good life and had a lot of babies. The Zoo’s vet and animal staffs did all that was possible to treat Maggie and keep her comfortable during her illness. Everyone loved Maggie, she will be missed so much.”

Dear Roxanna and all zoo keepers.

I am so very sorry to hear about Maggie's death. She will be missed so
very much. She was a great teacher, not only to her own children but to
the gawking humans as well. I remember being totally blown away when the
zoo keeper Jean demostrated to the crowd how she was training the hippos
to play fetch and COUNT!! I think thanks to Maggie, a huge barrier was
broken between what we think we know and what we still need to know.

My heart goes out to all of you.
Diane

Roxanna,
All of us at Trans Colorado Concrete are very sorry to hear about Maggie.  I will always be greatful for the opportunity you gave me to get up close and personal with her.  Believe me when I tell you that everyone at Trans Colorado Concrete and Pete Lien & Sons (in Rapid City, S. D.) knew who Maggie was, even though they may not have gotten the opportunity to meet her.  She will be missed.

Sincerely,
Dan Moberly

Deb, I was very sad tonight to hear about the hippo at the zoo, those animals are very high among our favorites and my granddaughter will never let me leave there without seeing them, usually twice.
I feel a bit like I heard a friend passed away this evening and I just wanted to take a moment to let the zoo know just how much some of us love being around those animals and truly enjoy the time we get to spend being there.

RoxAnna'
I was so sad to hear about Maggie.  I know how much she meant to you; it is so obvious the way you interact with the hippos when you are doing teaching for the guests.  Sara was sad when I told her the news and she said, "Oh, now I will miss her too."  Know that you are in our thoughts and we are so grateful for the times we got to get up close with the whole hippo family.

I hope that things are going well with the new exhibit area and all the animals are healthy.  Can't wait to visit.  Take care.
All our best wishes and deepest symapthy go to you and your staff.
Love,
Jul

It was with great sadness that we heard of Maggie's passing. She certainly will be remembered with fond thoughts. One of the best examples of her sense of humor was during a meeting held in the building when she started to twirl her tail. Not too many people expected what followed next but to put it politely she "let it fly." I haven't laughed so hard ever since! I am so thankful that we got to see her recently when we attended the members only opening of the new Rocky Mountain Exhibit. She will be missed.
