Cheyenne
Mountain Zoo moves off of the mountain with the Zoo’s new ZOOMobile and
outreach program; now a Zoo “visit” can include an animal experience at
a school or community event!
The idea of a Zoo outreach animal program isn’t a new one. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Auxiliary created the ZOOM program in 1984. At that time, Zoo Docents would drive a handful of animals from the Zoo’s collection to schools and local organizations in their private cars. Over time it was becoming more difficult to take collection animals off Zoo grounds. A strict quarantine program was enforced that stipulated that an animal must be quarantined for 30 days before entering (or returning) to the Zoo population. ZOOM was then suspended until a time when an independent collection of animals and a dedicated vehicle could be supplied to the program.
ZOOM Classroom Programs:
Let our programs supplement your science curriculum in a fun and exciting way without leaving your classroom. We’ll bring Colorado State Standards “to life” while connecting students with the wonders of wildlife and wild places and inspiring stewardship for the natural world. All programs include various live animals, biofacts (animal artifacts) and a ZOOM presenter. Programs for First Grade and up last approximately one-hour and programs for preschool and Kindergarten, approximately 30 minutes each. To achieve an intimate experience between the class and the animals, audience size is limited to 30 students per program. Multiple programs at one site receive a discount, and can occur simultaneously. (preschool and kindergarten presentations maybe split into two 30 minute presentations). Cost: $125/ for the first hour presentation; each additional at the same site $65 # of Students: Minimum 10 kids per program; Maximum 30 kids Scholarships: Available for Title 1 schools, contact Jacki at 719-633-9925 ext. 127 or email jmoore@cmzoo.org Choose from these types of classroom programs:
