February 16, 2010 - The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) and Stargazers Theatre proudly welcome the star of Animal Planet’s Emergency Vets,Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald to Colorado Springs on Friday, April 2 at 8:00 p.m. for an evening of comedy. This special fundraising appearance is set to benefit the important conservation efforts of AAZK. In addition to his stand-up comedy routine, Dr. Fitzgerald will also be showing various videos from recent research projects and expeditions, including polar bears, penguins, and rattlesnakes.

Tickets go on sale Friday, February 19th, and can be purchased for $20 per person by phone at 719-476-2200 or online at: Stargazers Theatre is located at 10 South Parkside Drive in Colorado Springs. This event contains some adult content and is suggested for ages 18 & up. Doors will open one hour prior to show time.

With a repertoire that ranges from numerous tours as a bouncer with The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Police, a 25-year career in veterinary medicine that named him “Specialist of the Year in Private Practice” in 2006, and over 20-years of performing as a professional stand-up comedian; Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald is a true renaissance man. Perhaps best known for his 11 seasons on the popular Animal Planet TV show Emergency Vets, Kevin’s passion for making people laugh is surpassed only by his unwavering dedication to all creatures great and small.

In addition to his countless appearances on Animal Planet, Kevin has appeared on The NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, The Today Show with Matt Lauer, Fox News Channel’s Geraldo-At-Large with Geraldo Rivera, The Maury Povich Show, TNN’s Crooke and Chase, Discovery Channel’s Home Matters, and most recently two appearances on CBS’s The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

His national radio appearances include The Howard Stern Show and a standout appearance on NPR’s Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me, as well as being featured on Paul Harvey’s The Rest of the Story.

Despite maintaining a busy practice at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Kevin’s performs stand-up comedy at over one hundred live events annually, continually receiving rave reviews.  He is also in very high demand as a host, guest speaker, and lecturer at universities and veterinary conferences across the country. Kevin’s dedication to both comedy and animals has earned him the title of “the hardest working veterinarian in show business.” 

The mission of the American Association of Zoo Keepers is to advance excellence in the animal keeping profession, foster effective communication beneficial to animal care, support deserving conservation projects, and promote the preservation of our natural resources and animal life. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s AAZK chapter has been very successful in fundraising efforts in recent years.
