CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN ZOO HEALS TEDDY BEAR BOO-BOOS THIS WEEKEND!

-- Twenty-fifth anniversary of Teddy Bear Days offers care for teddy bears, live bear demonstrations and a “beary” fun time for the whole family --

August 21, 2013, Colorado Springs, CO – Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will host the 25th annual Teddy Bear Days this Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Kids 12 and under accompanied by a teddy bear or other stuffed animal get into the Zoo for $5.25; members and children 2 and under are free.

Children and their parents can stop by the teddy bear clinic between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Lodge at Moose Lake with their stuffed animal friend for an official certificate of health. Staff and volunteers from Children’s Hospital Colorado will be on hand to provide check-ups to teddy bears. During the check-up, each bear’s weight, height and temperature will be recorded, and stitches, splints and other “medical” procedures will be administered to needy stuffed animals. The clinic is a great way for kids to familiarize themselves with the health care community and what they may expect if they need to visit a doctor, hospital or dentist.

There will be lots of additional activities for families to have an “unbearably” fun time at Teddy Bear Days, including face painting, crafts, emergency vehicles for kids to view and the opportunity to meet hands-on outreach animals.

Special zookeeper talks and enrichment demonstrations also are scheduled throughout the day in Bear Grotto (Andean bears, Asiatic black bears) and Rocky Mountain Wild (grizzly bears). The “Be Bear Aware” demo is the most popular, as guests learn the importance of camping safely while watching the Zoo’s grizzly bears, Emmett and Digger, raid a simulated campsite set up within their exhibit.
