The Plant Sale features 212 varieties of resource-wise perennials, grasses, woody plants, and herbs that perform well in the Pikes Peak region. In Addition, the Horticulture Partners Program section of the Plant Sale offers interested gardeners opportunities to try new varieties of plants, see the Horticulture Partners Program below for more information.

Horticultural Partners Program (HPP)

This is the second year for our Horticultural Partners Program, and opportunity for interested gardeners who like trying promising new plant varieties not generally offered in our area. Our goal is to share experience and understanding of these new plants between our Zoo Horticulture Staff and local gardeners, while adding diversity to our local plant pallets.

If you purchase an HPP plant, you will have the opportunity to participate in this information sharing program. Three times over the course of the year, our Horticulture Curator will send participants a brief email survey to learn more about your growing conditions and how the new plants are doing. The Zoo’s horticulture staff will also be trialing these plants, and the results of our collective input will be compiled and shared.

This year we offer some new varieties of plants in the Horticulture Partners Program, as well as some continuing trials. HPP plants can be purchased online now or at the Annual Plant Sale over Memorial Day Weekend (See more information at the top of this page). We have limited quantities of all of our plants, so get them while they last!

For more information, call 719.633.9925, ext. 142.

Zoo Grass

March - October

The Zoo's Horticulture Department grows and feeds nutritious, organic wheatgrass to many of the Zoo animals. As a fundraiser for the Horticulture Department, our organically grown Zoo Grass is available for purchase as well. You may purchase Zoo Grass to feed the birds in Budgie Buddies seasonally or purchase a voucher and pick some up for your pets at the Thundergod Snack & Gift Shop on your way home (daily March - October). It's a great way to interact with your animals (birds, cats, dogs and reptiles) at home using organic, non-toxic, conservation-minded fun! Even the container is 100% biodegradable made from straw and cocoa fibers. (So, please complete the cycle and dispose of the container in an earth-friendly way! You can compost it or simply bury it in your yard, where it will enrich your existing garden soil.)

Zoo Grass may be purchased at the Thundergod Snack & Gift shop during regular business hours March - October. Shipping is not available for Zoo Grass as it is a perishable product. Proceeds from Zoo Grass help support CMZoo Horticulture.
Cost: $3 per 3 inch square container.
