CIT Program
(Counselor In Training)
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has several Counselors in Training (CIT) positions to fill each summer. These positions are open to volunteers, ages 13-18. CIT’s assist in the organization and daily routine of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s day camps.
Requirements for CIT’s are as follows:
Must be at least 13 years of age
Must be able to follow directions
Must enjoy working with children 6 to 10 years old
Must be responsible and dependable
Must participate in camp activities
Must be energetic and enjoy working outdoors
Must be able to act as an appropriate role model for younger participants
Summer Work Schedule:
The Summer Safari Camp at the Zoo runs for
11 weeks in the summer.
Hours are 9am-3pm each day with an overnight on Thursdays of some sessions.
CIT’s are encouraged to volunteer for any or all of the sessions.
Cost to Participate:
Our CIT program is $30.00 for first session and $20.00 for additional
sessions. In return, CIT’s will receive two STAFF t-shirts, supervision,
be included in all staff activities, and gain valuable experience working
with children and animals. Many CIT’s use Cheyenne Mountain Zoo as a reference
when they apply for jobs or are petitioning for acceptance into organizations
like the National Honor Society.
To Apply:
Please fill out the CIT 2008 Application
and return it to the Zoo by April 1, 2008.
CIT’s will be interviewed and accepted into the program based on their
application, references, and interview.
Once accepted into the program, CIT’s must sign up for each camp session
they wish to volunteer for.
