Provide
classroom "Safari" instruction and zoo tours based on approved curriculum
to students in the Pikes Peak region from grades 2 and up. See details
on Docent lead tours.
Would
you like to be in a position to inspire a child to care about wildlife
and the natural world...perhaps providing them with an experience they'll
remember for a lifetime? Then consider becoming a CMZoo Docent Volunteer!
No previous experience is necessary and the rewards and satisfaction are
tremendous.
You can choose to volunteer during the week as a Tour Educator or on the weekends as an Interpretive Educator (or a combination of both). Tour Educators lead on-site Zoo tours for school kids and present classroom "safaris" in schools. Interpretive Educators instill an understanding and appreciation of animals using biofacts (animal artifacts) at the Zoo. Other opportunities for involvement also are available, including Zoopeteers (puppet program), Zoo on the Move, animal enrichment and special events. And let's not forget the fun perks of being a docent; great field trips, parties and the opportunity to meet some great people!
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Auxiliary has volunteers from all walks of life, both young and older. Interested persons are welcome to attend meetings and activities in the fall before training classes begin.
Training classes are scheduled for Saturdays
Training classes February & March 2008 9:30am to 3:30pm
For more class information please contact
Gerry Forster at 548-9420 or email GHUSSER@msn.com
Are
you age 21 or over, interested in the world of nature, and willing to pass
this information on to others? If so, becoming a docent at the zoo may
be for you. Docents fit into two categories based on availability. Tour
Educators are available during weekdays and provide the classroom safaris
and zoo tours for students. Interpretive Educators are available to provide
education to visitors on zoo grounds by utilizing biofacts and house talks
on weekends. The requirements to join this rewarding organization are:
