Where: African Rift Valley
When: 10am - 3 pm
Vultures are vanishing around the world at an alarming rate and are in need of our help! Of the 22 species of vultures in the world, 11 are currently threatened. They are declining due to poisoning from feeding on medicated cattle carcasses, power line collisions and loss of food and habitat. Vultures play a vital role in the environment by cleaning up carcasses and preventing the spread of disease.
The aim of International Vulture Awareness Day is to create awareness of the plight of all vulture species and to highlight the work done by the conservationists who monitor populations and implement measures to conserve vultures and their habitats.
On September 5, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will put the spotlight on vultures for Zoo guests with International Vulture Awareness Day. The day will feature a variety of fun vulture-themed activities for kids of all ages, educational displays, special keeper talks and animal encounters throughout African Rift Valley from 10am to 3pm.
