Habitat/Range: Chickens can be found on every continent.

Characteristics: Roosters can be differentiated from hens by their striking plumage, longer tail feathers and more prominent combs and wattles.

Behavior: Chickens generally live together in a flock. They will establish a "pecking order" to determine access to food and nesting sites.

Reproduction: Hens can lay up to 12 eggs at a time. She will sit on the nest to incubate the eggs for about 21 days. The color of the egg depends on the breed of the hen.

Conservation: There are more chickens in the world than any other type of bird.
