Wolf's Guenon

ZOO LOCATION: Monkey Pavilion

Lifespan: 20 to 26 years

Diet: Fruit, leaves, flowers, nectar and insects

SSP: Yes

IUCN Status: Not Evaluated

Habitat/Range: Lowland rainforests of central Africa.

Characteristics: These monkeys spend most of their time in the rainforest canopy (50 to 80 feet above ground). Their limbs are all very close to the same length, which gives them agility and control when navigating in tall trees. Wolf's guenons have cheek pouches they can stuff with food so they can run away and eat somewhere more private.

Behavior: Wolf's guenons typically live either alone or in groups of several females with one dominant male. Seven distinct calls, each meaning something different, help them communicate with each other in areas of low visibility.
