Domestic Goat

ZOO LOCATION: Goat Playground

Lifespan: 15 to 18 years

Diet: Domestic goats are ruminants and eat grasses and shrubs.

IUCN Status: Not Evaluated

Characteristics: Goats are one of the earliest domesticated animals and are the most nimble of any domesticated animal. There are approximately 200 different breeds of dairy goats, and they all have the ability to climb and cross rough terrain. They can do this because the pads of their toes are soft and movable, making them swift and sure-footed over steep and rocky terrain.

Dairy goats produce a large amount of milk and cheese that people consume.
