Characteristics: Native to Western Europe this perennial will grow to be 1 to 3 feet tall and up to 1 1/2 feet wide. The foliage is gray-green and finely cut. Brilliant orange or yellow flowers have four petals that form a cup. Although the 2 inch flowers are individually short lived, plants continue to bloom all summer long. Seed pods, produced in late summer, are long and slender, like 'horns', giving the plant its common name and providing additional seasonal interest. Horned Poppy prefers sandy soils and moderate moisture.
