This species is occassionaly referred to as spinytails, due to the 10 to 30 rings of spiked scales covering the top of their tail. They can be found in a large range throughout the deserts and arid habitats of Northern Africa as well as throughout the Middle East. Males are often larger than females and can grow to be around 14 to 16 inches in length.
