On May 23, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will offer a new way to experience the Zoo: a chairlift-style, open-air ride that will provide spectacular views of the Zoo, Cheyenne Mountain and Colorado Springs. 

Imagine yourself soaring over some of the Zoo’s most popular exhibits: Rocky Mountain goats, My Big Backyard, Asian Highlands and the new Rocky Mountain Wild. While the grandeur of the surrounding mountains instills an appreciation of nature, the views of Colorado Springs and the plains to the east are truly awe-inspiring.

The new “Mountaineer” sky ride departs from what is now known as the Mountain Outfitters plaza. A separate admission gate is offered for those wishing to enjoy the ride without a Zoo experience; Zoo guests will be able to access the sky ride from the outside entry or from inside the Zoo. 

Admission to the Mountaineer is $5 for adults and $4 for kids 3-11. The ascent up the mountain takes approximately seven minutes.

After disembarking at an overview at the top of the Zoo you can enjoy a leisurely stroll, indulge your sense of adventure by tackling the bouldering wall, or just relax on a bench and take in the breathtaking vistas. Kids are sure to appreciate the specially designed playground, and an authentic yurt provides shelter from unpredictable Colorado weather. Snacks and beverages are available seasonally. Access to the Zoo is not available from the overview.

The sky ride will be open year-round as weather permits. Extended summer hours of operation, independent of the Zoo, provide opportunities to enjoy spectacular sunsets and relaxing evenings from atop Cheyenne Mountain.
