Cheyenne Mountain Zoo offers summer camp adventures that share the wonders of wildlife and wild places in fun and exciting ways. Campers meet animals up close, explore the outdoors, interact with zookeepers, make treats for the animals, design cool crafts and more!

SUMMER CAMPS 2017 – REGISTRATION IS OPEN!


Summer Camps programs run from May – August.
Campers should register for the grade they will enter in the fall.
Minimum age is 4 years old.

6 Different ways to camp:

  • Full Week Camps – Grades Preschool – 12th – June – July – August
  • Single Day Camps – Grades Preschool – 4th – May 24-25-26 and August 7-8-9
  • Overnight Camp – Grades 1st – 6th – Thursday night, week of July 10-14
  • Two-week Camp – Grades 5th – 6th – Weeks of July 3-7 & 10-14
  • Outdoor Camp – Grades 4th – 6th – Weeks of June 26-30 & July 24-28
  • Family Camp – Grades 1st – 6th with accompanying adult – June 16-17 & July 21-22

Preschool and Kindergarten Half-Day Camps

Preschoolers love Zoo Camps offered as half-day camps, in both single day and full week opportunities May through August, 9:00 a.m. to noon.
NOTE: The minimum age for camp is 4 years old.

Campers should register for the grade they will enter in the fall.

Cost

Registration includes one camp t-shirt, camp cup, daily snack, and any take home items.

Members – Single Half-Day Camps: $25.75 per child

Family Camps; 1st – 6th Grade with Accompanying Adult(s)

Camp isn’t just for kids. It can be for your whole* family! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with your family and with the animals of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo!

Dates & Times:

Fridays and Saturdays half-days as scheduled; Sign up for one day or any combination of half days!
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Cost

Registration includes one camp t-shirt and any take home items. All child and adult campers should be ready to participate in group activities that may include games, crafts, keeper talks, and exploring the Zoo.
Members – Single Half-Day Camps: $25.75 per child or adult, per day**
Non-members – Single Half-Day Camps: $30.75 per child or adult, per day**

*Camp is designed for families with children between 5-12 years of age. Children must meet the minimum age requirement of 5 years to register. Siblings older than 12 years are welcome to register with their family with the understanding that activities may not be developmentally appropriate for them.

**Child and adult tickets for family camps are the same price. Each child should be accompanied by at least one adult.

WILD Families Camp!

Spend quality time with your loved one(s) exploring what it would be like to be a part of different animal families during our WILD Families half day camps! Try your hand at making nests like gorilla troops. See what your role would be in a lion pride. Discover what it’s like to live by the water’s edge and play like a romp of otters. When you walk around the Zoo, what do you see? Can others find what you see? Get ready to harness your sense of sight as you explore animals and their wild lives through the playful game of I Spy! You may discover surprising similarities and difference between animals when you take the time to really see them!

ZOO-tography

Snap! Flash! Photos! Learn what it takes to capture not so still life. Bring your own camera to this camp all about animal photography and end the week with a special Photo Exhibition! Campers will need to bring their own digital cameras with USB cords to camp (Ipads, Cell phones, and equivalent are perfect!)

Animal Investigators

Animals need different things based on their species. Do you know how much meat to give an owl? Or what kinds of “toys” make snakes happy? Come explore all of the things that zoo keepers do to keep all of our animals happy and healthy, and even create some fun animal “toys” while you are here

Outdoor Camp – My Big Back Yard (4th – 6th Grade)

Sign-up your child for this one-of-a-kind camp all about caring for nature and animals in our outdoor My Big Back Yard classroom*!
Campers will spend time exploring all aspects of nature and will interact with the animals in My Big Back Yard daily.
Campers should register for the grade they will enter in the fall.

Junior Naturalists

Build a natural bird feeder, raise caterpillars, care for tadpoles, feed the koi fish, meet the rabbits, help train a chicken, and spend your whole day outside! There is so much to explore on your way to becoming a Junior Naturalist! This camp is perfect for your active child who is fascinated with nature and animals.

Expedition Teens – 7th – 9th Grade

Camp isn’t just for kids. Combine your love of animals and nature and join your fellow teens to dig into the amazing discoveries the natural world has to offer. Explore the Zoo—getting up close with animals—and uncover what is being done in the wild to preserve incredible animal species. Traverse the Zoo’s Nature Trail and try your hand at some basic outdoor skills. Are you ready to test your skills and challenge your mind? Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Zoo Careers – 10th – 12th Grade

BEST. JOB. EVER! Want to work in a Zoo? Explore the Zoo by getting your hands dirty, talking to Zoo professionals and learning what it takes to have your dream job. Spend the week meeting different zoo professionals including veterinarians, zoo keepers, chefs, and horticulturalists!

Extended Camps

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo also offers early morning and late afternoon extended camps to better fit your busy schedule.

There are three different extended camp options to choose from:

Early Birds Camp: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. ($25 per day or $100 for the week)
Later Gators Camp: 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. ($25 per day or $100 for the week)
Beastly Bunch Camps: Both early and late care camps ($45 per day or $215 for the week)

Scholarships

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has a scholarship fund for its Summer Camp program.

  • Due to limited funding, only partial scholarships will be awarded.
  • Scholarships apply to the Zoo’s Summer Camp Program.
  • Criteria for selecting children for the program is based upon need.
  • An application form is available here when the application process is open.

Application deadline for Summer Camp Scholarship Form submission is March 31, 2017.
Decisions will be made no later than May 1, 2017.

Zoo Camp Program Registration Policies

The following policies have been developed to enable us to clarify program fees and manage registrations more effectively.

Registration

Advance registration is required for all programs. Registrations may be received by phone, in-person or online. Programs are filled on a first come, first serve basis, and all registrations will be prioritized by date of receipt. Campers should register for the grade they will enter in the fall.

Program Cancellation

The Zoo reserves the right to cancel a program due to lack of enrollment or unforeseen circumstances in which the Zoo is closed. If the Zoo cancels the program, a full refund or rescheduling of the program is available.

Refund Policy

A refund request must be received no less than TWO WEEKS prior to the start of the program. If approved, the Zoo will refund the amount of the fee minus a $25 non-refundable deposit. No refunds will be given after two weeks prior to the start of the program.
