Position Summary: With minimal supervision the maintenance team is responsible for maintaining and repairing all Zoo facilities and equipment, as well as giving guidance and training to less experienced technicians on work to be performed. This includes performing proactive/preventative maintenance to improve function and appearance of zoo facilities, and be able to complete work across all trades and disciplines. What Work Looks Like:
• Work with your teammates to provide top-notch daily care, environmental maintenance and enhancements, and training for a diverse group of animals.
• Design and deliver unforgettable moments for Zoo guests – Keeper chats, Demos, Behind-theScenes Tours, Defining Moments (impromptu guest / animal interactions intending to be a pivotal moment that leads to an appreciation of wildlife) and Interactive learning experiences.
• This area is the most requested section of the Zoo for behind the scenes experiences and animal encounters. A passion for sharing animals with others in a professional, safe, and fun manner is critical.
• Operant conditioning training, environmental enrichment, initiating data driven animal wellbeing enhancements, cleaning / maintaining exhibits and enclosures and thorough record keeping.
• New hires must pass training and certification with two lock – two key system, utilize lockout procedures when required, and follow communication strategies around safety protocols within the assigned dangerous animal facilities.
• Maintain a strong, team-based relationship with our veterinary staff and provide the highest standard of medical care.
COMPENSATION: $20.40-$22.95 per hour

Congratulations on your decision to pursue a career as a Zoo Veterinary Technician! Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is an excellent place to begin your journey. During the 6 month program, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in zoo wildlife care, working closely with experienced veterinary technicians, zoo veterinarians and zoo keeper staff. After the program, you will be better prepared to be competitive for other zoo veterinary technician positions. Please keep in mind that you may need to move around to find the right job.
