Discover great early childhood classes for parents and kids to experience together, and there is even an option for parents to drop off their preschool-aged child and have them explore the Zoo without parental support with Early Explorers!

  • Little Sprouts – Child-led, all-weather explorations (1 adult & 1 child included with registration).

F.A.W.N. (Ages 13-23 months)

First Adventures with Nature

First Adventures with Nature

Bring your 13-23 month old to the Zoo with their favorite adult for their First Adventures with Nature (F.A.W.N.).  It is never too early to introduce your toddler to the wonders of the natural world around them. Classes will explore a variety of topics through age appropriate activities, special crafts and hands-on animal encounters.

Time:

9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m., as offered

Cost:

Members* – $24.75 per class
Non-members – $30.75 non-members per class

*Membership discount rates automatically apply to registration costs when booking online at the Zoo’s website, after logging in with your Zoo membership username and password.

Program fee includes:

Program registration for one adult and one child (13-23 months old)
Zoo admission for the program registrants
3 tokens for the Quarters for Conservation kiosk
1 take-home craft
1 animal meet ‘n greet

Additional Participant Fees & Policies

  • The registration fee of $30.75 includes one adult and one child participant.
  • Zoo membership discounted rate will automatically be applied to your reservation when you register for the program on the Zoo website and log in with your membership username or password.
  • Please call the EdVenture Department at 719-424-7827 if you are having difficulty with your registration. This is a premium Zoo program and therefore members are still required to pay a discounted member fee to register.
  • Infants (0-12 months) may accompany the registered adult participant for free.
  • Siblings within the program’s age range of 13-23 months must register as a participant.
  • Extra Adults may attend the program for an extra fee of $19.75.
  • All other guests outside the program’s age range of 13-23 months must pay regular zoo admission, and may attend the program with their family to assist with photos and child care, but may not participate in any program activities.

 
Space is limited; therefore pre-registration is required.

Theme: Grandparents & Giraffes

Description: Celebrate Grandparents Day weekend interacting with Tamu and Riyadh our resident giraffe grandmothers. Participants will learn about the giraffe family at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and their unique characteristics, and make a giraffe-themed craft. This is sure to be a family outing for the ages!

Description: Participants will adorn their own mini pumpkins with the latest fall fashion, and deliver pumpkin enrichment to two of our sharpest “dressed” animal ambassadors at the zoo.

Description: Participants will create candy corn art and watch “Mister” the Eclectus parrot show off his candy corn colored beak!

Description: Red, orange, yellow, and brown! The leaves on the trees are falling down! Participants will explore the zoo meeting some of the animal ambassadors sporting fall color coats, create leaf-themed crafts and participate in fall-themed activities.

Explore, discover, learn, and play together in a whole new way!

Get ready to explore the natural world with your Little Sprout through child centered, self-guided free exploration and play in the great outdoors! The quality of overall learning and depth of connection to the natural world are significantly enhanced for your Little Sprout when you are there, by their side, as a guide and fellow traveler while they journey through the earliest and most influential years of their lives.

Prepare to explore, gear up to get dirty, and practice stretching your imaginations!

Explorations may include:

  • structures to build
  • materials to manipulate
  • up-close meeting with an Animal Ambassador
  • endless opportunities for creative play!

A world of discovery awaits in our outdoor classroom, and your role as an active participant in this program is vital!

Description: Treat yourself to the royal treatment, zoo-style! Enjoy fine, locally-sourced, imaginary cuisine from our mud kitchen; lather up with an exfoliating, organic mud facial; and wallow in the glory of meeting some of our mud-loving animal ambassadors.

Theme: Pumpkin Parade (Part 1)

Description: Participants will decorate their own mini pumpkins and then travel to the African Rift Valley to deliver pumpkin enrichment to some of our animal ambassadors.

Description: Participants will decorate their own mini pumpkins and then travel to the Rocky Mountain Highlands to deliver pumpkin enrichment to some of our animal ambassadors.

Description: Participants will venture up to the nature trail to explore the leaf-covered forest floor. Participants will search for invertebrates preparing for winter under the leafy surface, and create their own leaf pile to jump in.

Early Explorers (Ages 4-6 years)

Camp-like programs, one week-long every month!

Sign your child up for single days or the whole week.
Early Explorers is a camp-like drop-off option for children ages 4 – 6. The program runs for five days in a row (Monday through Friday) from 9 a.m. to noon and will occur once a month (with the exception of summer, when Preschool and Kindergarten half-day summer camps are offered).

Preschool-aged children are at a pivotal age where they are constantly absorbing everything around them and gaining knowledge to help prepare them for kindergarten, as well as their future education.

Early Explorers programs include:

  • curriculum-based themes focused on animal movement, colors, sounds, smells, etc.,
  • classes filled with activities to get kids moving like animals and recognizing shapes and patterns,
  • overall building of their comprehensive, communication and mobility skills,
  • spending time exploring the Zoo and meeting animals.

Time:

9:00 a.m. – noon, as offered

Cost:

Single Half-Day:
Members – $30.75 per child
Non-members – $35.75 per child

Full Week Half-Day:
Members – $150.75 per child
Non-members – $175.75 per child

(Program fee admits one toddler for each class.)

NOTE: No sibling or adult participation is offered for Early Explorer programs.
