Muscovy Duck

Lifespan: 7 to 20 years

Natural Diet: Plant material, small fish, amphibians, reptiles, crustaceans and insects

Habitat: Wetlands, rivers and forests of South and Central America

IUCN Status: Least Concern

In their natural range, Muscovy ducks are often referred to as "Musco ducks" because they eat a lot of mosquitos. This specie of duck does not quack! Muscovies communicate with one another by wagging their tails and raising and lowering their heads at one another. Unlike other ducks, Muscovies don't swim very much because their oil glands are under-developed compared to other duck species.
