From towering giraffes ,mighty elephants, gigantic bugs to colossal tortoises and gentle giant fish, we will uncover the secrets of how these animals play a vital role in their ecosystems. Monday, April 27 is World Tapir Day! Join us and celebrate tapirs during your visit to the Zoo! All you need to do is reserve your e-tickets in advance, and come to the tapir yard for scheduled events! This is an incredibly rare opportunity, since Mochi is one of only a few mountain tapir in human care in the United States and wild mountain tapirs are critically endangered.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo invites all ages of world class runners and families alike to Run to the Shrine, offered on the evenings of Saturday, May 9 and Sunday May 10, 2026 (Saturday, May 9 is sold out). Run to the Shrine is a 4-mile run/walk course that curves through the Zoo, up to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun and back down into the Zoo. Run to the Shrine has become an annual Cheyenne Mountain Zoo tradition, and it is the only time that guests are allowed to travel up to the Shrine of the Sun by foot! In addition, Run to the Shrine is an important fundraiser for the Zoo. Registration is required and open online now!

Ages 1-4 years. For this special Holiday edition Stroller Safari, we will be using the country’s flag colors to guide our learning! Some of these colors are easier to spot in nature than others, so come along on the journey to see what we can find! Registration is required.
Join us in our parking lot, or watch from your preferred viewing spot in the area. This special 200-drone show will take off from a higher point than our normal shows, making them visible from much farther away. The show will last about fifteen minutes from 9:15-9:30 p.m. Tickets or reservations are not required. The Zoo will be closed during the drone show. The Zoo parking lot is limited and will open at 7:15 p.m. for public viewing. Please follow staff directions for parking and viewing. The show is weather permitting and alcohol, pets, and personal fireworks are not permitted.

Our two roly-poly eight-month-old grizzly bear cubs are ready for names and we need your help! For a $5 minimum donation, you can vote for your favorite pair of names for the sibling cubs and make a difference for grizzly bears in the wild. One hundred percent of proceeds from the naming campaign will support The Vital Ground Foundation’s work to protect and restore North America’s wild grizzly bear populations.
